Evaluation of candidates

Knowing English is an increasingly relevant factor for the hiring of collaborators or for promotions to managerial levels. This is the conclusion reached by the study “Tendencies in the Human Resources and Recruitment Area” prepared by the Robert Half headhunting agency.

The report indicates that 64% of all companies require business English when recruiting personnel. Of these companies, 38% require an advanced level of English, 35% an medium level of English, and 27% require that their collaborator have a basic level of English.

In general, we see that the human resources areas of companies, as well as consultant firms themselves, don’t have the tools or knowledge necessary for carrying out a job interview in English and thus deliver a complete report to the manager requesting the search. Evaluation criteria of candidates

At Just4U we use the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) prepared by the University of Cambridge, the international standard that defines the linguistic competencies for defining the level of English of a candidate. The evaluation consists of a personal interview with the candidate(s), lasting 20 to 30 minutes, as well as a written test. Towards this end, we ask that the company or consultant send the profile of the position and the level of English required. With this information we prepare a written report indicating the level of English of the candidate in each of the areas of the language: reading, writing, speaking, and listening. This report is sent to the human resources area and/or consultant. If a recruiter or company requires a certain level of English that a candidate does not have, we can make recommendations regarding the aspects that a candidate needs to improve so as to reach the level of English required by the company.

English levels

After the candidates are evaluated, the applicant will be selected with one of the six levels of English possible in the CEFR, allowing him or her to start a course where they will develop all of the skills necessary to express themselves with security in the business world, with professional vocabulary, and specific subjects for the professionals of today.

The evaluation of candidates is a truly effective strategy for defining the real level of English of the collaborators or candidates applying for a position in your company because tests that are just written do not faithfully determine conversational English levels or listening comprehension.
